Newtown Ghetto Anger will be taking a break for a couple of weeks. We hope you'll take this time to think long and hard about the true reason for the season.
Also, there is no God, and you're distantly related to monkeys. Have a great secular summer holiday, and we'll see you next year.
Righto
J

radio killed the radio star

In other news, I'm performing at Comedy Underground (Room 101, Bodega, 8pm, $8) this Sunday, along with Jan Maree, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, and a bunch of other great acts whose names I forget and am too lazy to look up on the internet right now*.
Come along, why don't you.

Rookie Comedy Competition & Workshop
Coming up at the Wellington Comedy Club (every Thursday at San Francisco Bathhouse is The Rookie Competition - which if you've always wanted to give comedy a go is the ideal opportunity. The competition will be on Thursday 19 October, from 8pm.
In advance of this, we're holding a free comedy workshop at the Bathhouse at 6.30pm this Thursday 12 October. This is not a comedy writing workshop, but is instead an introduction to the business of comedy - including technical aspects of performance and an overview of what venues and promoters expect of a "professional" comedian.
The workshop should be about an hour long, and tutors will be prominent Wellington comic Steve Wrigley, this year's Billy T winner Cori Gonzales-Macuer and myself (I'm the Vice President of the NZ Comedy Guild). Highly recommended if you're intending to enter the rookie competition (you can sign up at the workshop), or if you're interested in comedy in general.
If you'd like to come to the workshop, please RSVP by sending me an email (use the address in the right hand column). If you'd like to enter the rookie competition, email wellingtoncomedyclub@gmail.com.

everyone's a critic
Last week, I reviewed a couple of the films in the International Documentary Film Festival">http://www.docnz.org.nz for Karate Party.
I saw Flock of Dodos (review here) and How Arnold Won The West (review here).
The Flock of Dodos people were apparently quite pleased...

NGA gets barely favourable internet mention!
Due to the magical power of the internet, we can not-so-exclusively reveal that although Salient reporter editor James Robinson has "never been a huge Newtown Ghetto Anger fan", he was amused by this one.
Rest assured, Mr. Robinson, that now our test marketing has finally been successful, NGA labs will begin churning out cartoons tailored to your specific tastes.

comedy in wellington
Wellington is fair bursting at the scenes with standup comedy shows right now.
The Wellington Comedy Club is at the San Francisco Bathhouse every Thursday, and have just secured some sponsorship to bring a headline act from Auckland every fortnight. Next week's headliner (August 24) is the not-to-be-missed Jeremy Elwood.
Also on the last Sunday of every month there's a little gig called Comedy Underground, which is in Room 101, downstairs at Bodega. This month's show is on Sunday 27 August.
Bloody well go out and see some live comedy, why don't you.

gentile warts
This was produced for a VUWSA safe sex booklet/magazine/thing. I'm not sure if this ever materialised, or will materialise, or if it's dead in the water - so I thought I would give it an airing here (if anyone saw it please let me know)

robbed
NGA missed out on the award for "Best Web Comic" at the Eric Awards on Saturday night - we were beaten out by Jitterati, by the able and talented Grant Buist (who nominated NGA for the award, so I suppose it's fair enough).
Then on Sunday I went to Armageddon. Which was odd. And had an interesting odour.

This is the first NGA to be published on Public Address - it's now been roughly a week so it goes up here for the archives. There should be a new one up on PA soon...

NGA on Public Address
I'm very pleased to announce that NGA will henceforth be a regular feature in Keith Ng relaunched column on the always excellent Public Address.
Keith has written a rather nice little article about us in fact.
We're aiming for weekly or bi-weekly. We'll see how that works - I'm quite busy at the moment, what with my comedy festival show coming up and my recent ascension to the vice-presidency of a certain local organisation (yes, I am the Dick Cheney of comedy - or maybe the Dan Quayle). Not that I'm a shameless self-promoter or anything.
The cartoons published on Public Address will be archived on this site after about a week, so if you don't care to visit that site you can always just come here and wait patiently.
Choice.
(By the way you really should come to my comedy festival show. It will be awesome).

Now with 200% more award nominations
Newtown Ghetto Anger has been nominated for an Eric Award! I'm up for Best Web Comic.
I have no idea how the awards work, or who gets to vote on them, or why, but it's certainly nice to be included amongst such luminaries of the humour and web comic worlds. But I guess if you can vote for me, then do. Or something.
[UPDATE: Looks like they removed the "humour comic" category, and the nominees have been cut down to a shortlist. Have edited the above to reflect this.]

Welcome Dominion Post Readers!
If you've come here after seeing this cartoon in the Dominion Post, then nice work! Your Googling skills are impressive - since the Dom Post kindly removed the URL to this webpage (along with my copyright notice) before publishing the 2 cartoons.
For those of you who didn't see NGA in the Dom Post, the cartoons which were printed in last Saturday's Long Weekend section are this one and this one.
