My computer monitor is away for repair. This means that while I still have my aging laptop, my main PC (and NGA engineroom) is currently functional only in a decorative sense.
More NGA as soon as they return it to me.

you seem familiar...

Once again, you know you're famous when you get parodied... This cartoon appeared in Victoria University's fine (not to mention award winning) student's association magazine Salient earlier this year, and relates to some dodgy dealings to do with J Day.
"Potted" summary: NORML were given a VUWSA grant of around $1500 for the J Day event, after presenting a budget of around $3000; questions were raised about whether that budget was accurate; NORML ended up giving about $500 back; an SGM was held to try and remove the VUWSA Exec member involved in the debacle; he managed to hang on to his position. All uncovered by and reported by the aforementioned student media organ.
UPDATE: I missed out the explanation for the bottom strip, and screwed up the hyperlink to Salient. Both are fixed now (thanks, Sarah!).

on a cold and grey chicago morn
This page is now number one on Yahoo! when you search for "ghetto cartoons". Which is... odd.
I'm currently getting about one US visitor a day from that particular search string. So, welcome, Americans! I hope you like what you find here. I apologise that the "Ghetto" in "Newtown Ghetto Anger" may not accurately reflect US ghettos such as Watts, the Bronx or Beverly Hills.
More cartoons up soon. I know you're just waiting with bated breath.
UPDATE: Looks like I spoke too soon (or someone bitched to Yahoo) - I've dropped off. Not even on the first three pages now, which is as far as I could be arsed looking. Which is probably for the best, really. People don't tend to like bait and switch advertising...

welcome hard news readers
If you're visiting this page for the first time today, you've probably been directed here by Russell Brown (thanks for the shout out, Russell!).
If that's the case, I strongly recommend that you troll through the archives. The quality of the content here is variable. After you've looked at the cartoons, you might also like to visit my other page where I put other stuff that I think is funny (as well as the occasional rant - though those are becoming less and less common).
Anyway, as I see it, Russell has issued a challenge: a cartoon a week.
To start with I think I'll roll out the rest of the archival cartoons (look out for them sometime tonight) but that sounds like a reasonable plan to me. And if I can't keep up with the pace, I'll just contract out to cheap Korean animators like everyone else does (how do you think Doonesbury manages a daily cartoon?).
If you'd like to help out, please feel free to provide suggestions for future cartoon topics. Either leave them in comments or drop me a line via email: the address, as per the sidebar, is newtownghettoanger AT hotmail DOT com (I trust you can decipher my code).

publishing nightmare
I received a copy of the first issue of Lucid in the mail today, which I assume means it's available all over (I figure in the time it took to get to Australia, they should have been able to distribute it to at least some universities and polytechnics around NZ).
They only used one of my cartoons though (and not the one I've already posted. I might post the other ones soon. Which I'm gutted about, because each one took at least 5 minutes to make.
Right.

here come my fifteen minutes...
The nation's literati will now be anxiously awaiting the arrival of Lucid - the imminent publication of which has just been heralded by no greater personage than Russell Brown, in the almighty Listener.
With the prospect of a wider audience I'm beginning to wish I submitted some slightly more offensive cartoons for the first issue. Cartoons with words like "speculum", "minge", and "bollocks".
Ah well. There's always the next one...

here comes speed racer
Matt Nippert at Fighting Talk talks about a couple of new student-targeted magazines coming your way soon (at least if you're at University in New Zealand). It's mostly about Fuse, the New Zealand Herald's new advertising vehicle, but he also mentions Lucid, the new national version of which (first issue due out September 1) will feature Newtown Ghetto Anger.
Funny thing is, he describes Lucid as a lad mag. If that's the case I might have to sex Newtown Ghetto Anger up a bit. Look out for much more tits and arse in upcoming cartoons.

new ones - done
Well, I've submitted 3 new NGAs to the first issue of nationwide Lucid. I'm not sure how good they are, but it's a bit late to worry about that now.
As soon as they're out in print, I'll put them up here.
I'll put some more old ones up over the weekend.

Lucidity
Looks like NGA is going to be in print again (and wouldn't you just love to get your grubby little hands on it). Lucid is relaunching as a nationwide magazine soon, and Newtown Ghetto Anger will be in it. I'm not sure when - I just know that my deadline is August 5, Until then I'll put up an archival strip every couple of days until I run out; then any new cartoons that appear in Lucid will also appear here.
